Built as two private houses in the middle of the 19th Century, and backing on to one of the prettiest squares in York, the two listed buildings have been lovingly restored to retain the ambience of a private home and provide peaceful, elegant rooms where the pressures of the day can be eased away. At Holmwood House, all the rooms are different, both in decoration and size, and all have their own bathroom or shower room. There are many extra touches in addition to the usual colour television, coffee and tea making facilities, radio alarm clock and hair dryer. Free wi fi is available also in all rooms.

By popular demand the hotel is non-smoking. For those who find stairs difficult we have three rooms at ground level and one at garden level. On the ground floor there is a comfortable sitting room in which to relax and browse amongst the books and information about York and the surrounding areas. Our aim at Holmwood House is to make you feel at home and enable you to enjoy your stay in York.

We also have high quality modern annex rooms situated to the rear of the property. If guests have a preference for the main house please let us know.

Dining Facilities

Breakfast is our speciality: we offer a choice of fruit juices; grapefruit segments and prunes; cereals, including our special muesli (full of fruit and nuts); followed by a truly wide selection which includes the usual full English breakfast, kippers, fruit platter, vegetarian breakfast, hot croissants and toast, and, to help the digestion, we will soothe you with gentle classical music.

Rather than tie you to an evening meal in, we feel it better to allow you to try the wide range of restaurants in York.

For those special occasions we offer Gourmet Breaks in conjunction with one of York's top restaurants.

Parking: Free secure parking is available in our car park found to the rear of the hotel. Guests are welcome to use the car park prior to 2.30pm - please advise reception once you have arrived.
