Lower Gazegill Farm
Gazegill Organics, Rimington
Farming across the Pennine Lancashire and Yorkshire borders, Gazegill has remained under the watchful eye of the Robinson Family for nearly 500 years. The Biological Heritage Hay meadows produce a colourful display and a nutritious and herb rich diet year on year which is helped by their sensitive management, our farming stance is balanced with nature and we have a real passion for organic natural farming, we know our produce is what it is because we farm from our heart, this way we truly know that we always do our best not only by our animals but for our nature too.
A farm with no GMO’s, no antibiotic residues, no pesticides or herbicides just natural grass leys and great habitat which we know blesses us with food that tastes as it should from animals that are allowed to behave as they should be.
A Little Bit About Us...
Our family have been farming at Gazegill for about 500 years and as current custodians our responsibility to continue farming in a sustainable and nature led way is very important. We have always believed that nature is never wrong and farming organically produces healthier food from happier animals within a sound ecological system. Happy, healthy animals make better food with a traditional flavour.
The rare and traditional breeds that we keep are better suited to the organic system and are slowly grown, this ensures a longevity of life based around a natural approach to farming. We love them to bits, they are our extended family.
We have traditional Hay Meadows that are species rich in flowers, herbs and grasses, these promote an abundance of natural habitat for our birds, and other wild animals. We are currently within the higher level environmental stewardship scheme with Natural England and we truly believe that joining this scheme is a natural progression for Gazegill with its biological heritage sites and our beautiful nature. A relaxed approach to farming and with an emphasis on true welfare, we believe that our animals benefit from this diverse natural system. In addition to our nature our ancestors had the foresight to leave in tact many ancient monuments on our farm, from ridge and furrow to Roman roads, our charge is to protect them and pass them on…
To coin a phrase we have always said “its what’s not in it rather than what is”, this we think is key to our commitment to food that is natural in its rearing and happy in its life. Happy, healthy animals make better food.
“Farm shop / Tour of farm”
Recently went to visit Gazegill on our way to a family weekend get together. There were 12 of us in total including 4 children and a baby and we had an excellent tour of the farm. The children loved looking at the animals especially the piglets - all well looked after. The tour was very informative and certainly made me want to eat more organic food. The farm shop was well stocked and prices very reasonable. We don't live very close but I would certainly consider ordering online. I would recommend a visit here.
”Fab farm / Lovely cheese”
We visited the farm with 4 children and a baby. We were given a tour of the animals with some very informative commentary. We then purchased some meat, butter, milk and cheese in the shop. All of which was amazing quality and tasted great.
A great farm with excellent staff and the food is amazing, the animals are lovely and so friendly. I would definitely recommend this farm.
“Extremely helpful butchers”
We have been looking to source good quality meats, consequently we were pleasantly surprised to find Gazegill. The two butchers were very helpful and informative in meeting our requirements, the quality and availability of the various meats and cuts is extensive. You will never go back to a conventicle butcher having tasted true organic meats. Good educational trip for children to learn were produce actually does come from.
