Horton-In-Ribblesdale - Yorkshire Dales

Horton-in-Ribblesdale is a small village in the Yorkshire Dales National Park close to the source of the River Ribble. It is a popular base for walkers, many of whom are completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge Walk over Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside. People frequently start this walk from Horton-in-Ribblesdale's Pen-y-ghent Cafe as a challenge in under 12 hours, or more leisurely over 2 or 3 days. Being within the limestone area of the Yorkshire Dales Horton-in-Ribblesdale is also popular with cavers, pot-holers and anyone looking for beautiful countryside.

Although many visitors are walking the 3 Peaks, there are also many other routes; The Pennine WayRibble Way and http://www.daleshighway.co.uk/ along with countless other individual paths and rights of way.

Horton-in-Ribblesdale also has some excellent Yorkshire Dales holiday cottages, a superb campsite, and fine bed and breakfast accommodation.

Michael and family, your hosts have been at the golden lion for 26 years after buying it in January 1988. The building had been used as an outdoor centre before that and required extensive renovation before opening back as a hotel on 14th may, 1988. During renovation an ancient well over 45ft deep was discovered to the rear of the hotel. The well has been made into an interesting feature.
