Fishing in the Dales

The Yorkshire Dales can proudly boast some of the UK’s finest waters to fish with all styles of angling widely available. Including well stocked coarse lakes where you can laze in the sun waiting for your float to disappear, fabulous fly fishing lakes, and reservoirs, and also venues which offer tuition for all age groups. Below are a few examples of fine fishing to be found when visiting the Yorkshire Dales.

Helwith Bridge Fly Fishery is located in the Yorkshire Dales close to Ingleton and Settle. This fly fishery is in a stunning location with excellent views of Pen-y-Ghent and the surrounding Yorkshire Dales. The lake is 30ft deep, covers 4.5 acres and is spring fed, the water is crystal clear and is set in quiet, tranquil surroundings. RAYGILL FISHING LAKES offers a superb variety of fly and coarse fishing on four quite individual lakes, 2 Fly & 2 Coarse,as a Trout masters Water, they offer some of the best quality fly fishing for brown, blue, rainbow & golden trout on two well stocked lakes. FOULRIDGE RESERVOIR can be found a short drive from Skipton, on the Yorkshire, Lancashire border and is a whopping 97.5 acres in size, and offers a variety of species to fish for including, bream, carp, roach, eel, and some huge pike! The 24 acre estate lake at CONISTON HALL is situated close to the village of Coniston Cold which is 7 miles West of Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales. Coniston Hall Lake is set in a spectacular location and overlooked by the splendid Coniston Hall. If you want to teach your children to fish then look no further than KILNSEY TROUT FARM, not only is there a children’s lake, tutors are also available for one to one coaching. This fishery is situated in spectacular surroundings beside Kilnsey Crag, consisting of two lakes of approximately 1 acre each, and is open all year round. We have our own beautiful 24-acre lake which is well stocked with fighting fit Rainbow Trout and also holds a good head of wild Brown Trout.

 

Fishing on the River Aire 

Our one mile length of the River Aire provides the river fly fisher with the opportunity for some challenging fly fishing for its wild Brown Trout, some of which are in excess of 2lbs. 

 

The River Aire has excellent hatches of fly and offers good sport to dry fly and nymph tactics.

 

The River Aire is open for fly fishing from April to September inclusive. 

 

Boats are available for the lake and tuition is available for those wishing to improve their fishing.
